Consistent branding with templates and a Canva Brand Toolkit
About the Geological Society of Australia
The Geological Society of Australia (GSA) is a non-profit organisation established in 1952 to promote, advance, and support Earth sciences across Australia.
They were having difficulty maintaining consistency in how their team applied brand assets and approached ALYKA after learning about our Canva Brand Toolkit service offering.
The challenge
Without a clear set of brand guidelines, GSA had no agreed-upon rules regarding the application of their brand assets. This led to the messy and inconsistent use of these assets, as well as the production of branded content that varied greatly in appearance and quality.
GSA had identified that this misalignment between marketing collateral and their branding risked damaging their brand image.
The solution
Logo refresh
We refreshed GSA’s logo, which was previously only available in .jpg format, and applied a more modern font family consistent with their branding goals. We provided three colour variations of the logo: full colour, reversed colour and black and white. This ensured the logo could be easily integrated into any piece of content.
Brand guidelines
After completing a brand audit, we developed brand guidelines for GSA to ensure an understanding of the principles involved when applying branded elements. These guidelines describe how to correctly use the brand logo, fonts, colours, and applications, including social media and presentation templates that we created in Canva.
Canva Brand Toolkit
GSA already had a Canva account but approached us because they were having trouble using it effectively and keeping marketing collateral on-brand. We created a Canva Brand Toolkit to support the consistent application of branded assets.
The brand kit utlises user permissions to lock certain brand elements like colours, fonts and styling. It also makes it easy for team members to directly access brand elements when creating designs, removing the risk of misapplication. This ensures that team members can only create content that aligns with brand guidelines.
As part of the brand kit, we also created:
- Social media templates: a set of four templates where image(s) and text can be quickly edited to facilitate fast, on-brand social posting across a variety of topics.
- Presentation template: a slide deck containing over ten slides with example content included, ensuring presentations can be compiled efficiently and remain on-brand.
Canva onboarding
To ensure GSA would be able to hit the ground running with their new Canva templates and brand kit, we delivered an interactive training session on how to use them. We also provided a handover document in Canva summarising this training for easy future reference.
The results
The Canva Brand Toolkit brought a greater degree of clarity and consistency to GSA’s creation of branded content. By providing clear instructions, locking certain brand elements and creating a suite of social media and presentation templates, it’s now easy for team members to create content that looks great and stays on-brand.
